Beautiful People: Update on Wendy Massey: Preparing for Sock Drive + A Music Video!

By Kaitlin Irwin

A few months ago, we featured Wendy Massey, CEO and Founder of Someone Cares About Me LLC and Happy Being Me Inc.. Since then, it’s been a whirlwind of blessings and inspiration, from being granted 501(c)3 status to preparing for an even bigger winter sock drive and shooting a brand-new Happy Being Me music video! Wendy’s passion sets her heart on fire to encourage others, embrace being different, and share her story with anyone who might find themselves in a rut.

The time of year is approaching again for Wendy’s Spare-A-Pair sock drive. It officially kicks off in October, although Wendy collects socks throughout the year to distribute in November. These simple articles of clothing mean so much to those who don’t have them, especially in the harsh winter months. This year Wendy’s partnering with St. Timothy’s Church in Aston, which should help to increase her efforts and provide socks to even more individuals.

Another project on Wendy’s to-do list is sharing her story with children and groups in schools and churches, as well as her YouTube channel Wendy Inspire. She believes that when people are free to be themselves, they can chase their dreams and raise their self-esteem. Wendy shares techniques that she has used to overcome setbacks, and these messages reach others on a daily basis. Her Happy Being Me movement is for everyone, everywhere!

The Happy Being Me book and theme song were written by Wendy and are used in schools to teach and encourage children. The new theme song was produced by M.I.C, Hambe & BMR Entertainment and pairs the Happy Being Me oath with a fun rhythm that gets kids excited to celebrate what makes them unique. As if that weren’t exciting enough, the very first Happy Being Me music video is going to be released! Filmed at St. Timothy’s Church with the support of Pastor Steve Boughter and Dina Sullivan, the music video will be produced in conjunction with Artistic Hands Productions and star 30 diverse cast members including professional dancers from Journey School Of Dance.

Preparing for the music video was a huge deal for Wendy and involved her completing a complex story line and a detailed description of her evolution growing up. There are references to her first day of school, her experiences with bullying, and the memory of one of her biggest motivators: her father. The concept is original and does a great job of illustrating Wendy’s personal journey from feeling bad about being different to celebrating those differences and strengthening her confidence. When planning the video, she made it a point to include a variety of ages and backgrounds while spreading a positive message that will resonate with anyone who has ever felt left out or pressured to fit in.
