A new year means another 365 days in which we can plan travels and adventures. There are many lists of locations to visit according to state, interests, theme, etc. We have a short list here of U.S. Landmarks that should make their way onto your travel bucket list. There are many landmarks all over the country that are great destinations. How many on this list have you visited?


Portland Head Light - Maine
Portland Head Light was commissioned in 1790 by George Washington and to this day remains one of the most important historic landmark in the United States. The lighthouse is located in Cape Elizabeth in the state of Maine and is the oldest of its kind. Visitors will be in awe of the beautiful setting and Portland Head Light's majestic stance perched on the rocky coastline which looks out to the North Atlantic Ocean.


Bryce Canyon National Park - Utah
The landscape of Bryce Canyon National Park is utterly unique, making your visit here a once in a life time experience. The landscape is even more beautiful and breathtaking in the wintertime when the softly sprinkled snow contrasts against the terracotta-colored canyons. Be sure to pack your camera to capture the magnificent landmark that awaits you!


Mount Rushmore - South Dakota
The Mount Rushmore National Memorial is certainly an American landmark to add to your bucket-list. The mountainside sculpture is the largest work of art in the world. Carved into the granite rock of Mount Rushmore, you will find the 60 foot tall images of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. Each year, two million visitors flock to see the stone sculpted faces of America's past presidents.


Grand Canyon - Arizona
Arizona is home to one of the most magnificent natural wonders in America - The Grand Canyon. Visiting this vast sandstone canyon, which spans 227 miles, has to be on every travel bucket-list. The steep and rugged canyon is carved by the Colorado River and is undoubtedly one of the most visually awe-inspiring landmarks within the United States. Have your camera at the ready for some truly jaw-dropping panoramic views of the surrounding scenery.


Millennium Park - Illinois
Chicago's Millennium Park is 25 acres of wonderful landscape, fascinating architecture and inspiring public artworks, as well as the location of free events, performances and film screenings. The city park was opened in 2004 and functions as a famous landmark within Chicago attracting crowds of visitors each day. It is perhaps most illustrious for its array of captivating public artworks, such as Jay Pritzker Pavilion's piece 'Cloud Gate' known locally as 'The Bean'.


Hoover Dam - Arizona/Nevada
Located on the border between Arizona and Nevada, the dam sits in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River. Construction began during the years of the Great Depression, and as such the dam made a historic contribution to society, providing jobs and employment opportunities for those out of work. Altogether, about 21,000 workers helped to build this dam turned tourist attraction. The construction of Hoover Dam used approximately 5 million barrels of cement and 45 million pounds of reinforcement steel. Its 6.6 million tons of concrete is enough to pave a road from San Francisco to New York City.


Lincoln Memorial - Washington DC
This monument pays homage to the 16th president of the United States of America, Abraham Lincoln. The Greek-inspired design exudes grandeur and importance. The stone statue of the president, which stands at 19 feet tall, is incredibly impressive to view when standing beside it. The landmark is inherently symbolic of American history and visitors will likely leave feeling inspired.


Empire State Building - New York
The Empire State Building, located in Midtown Manhattan, is one of the most iconic and instantly recognizable landmarks in the world. Synonymous with the Big Apple, the Empire State Building stands at 1,454 feet tall, has an impressive 102 floors, and even its very own zip code. This soaring skyscraper was completed back in 1931, and is unmissable amongst the New York skyline. It is regarded as a cultural and architectural symbol and has been featured in many films.


Yellowstone National Park - Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho

Yellowstone is classed as the world's first national park. It features mountainous terrain, forests, lakes, waterfalls and even a mystical-looking hot spring geyser. Yellowstone is also teeming with wildlife and is a haven for flora and fauna of all kinds, including grizzly bears, elk and bison. With so much to see, do and experience, you'd be foolish not to have Yellowstone on your bucket-lists of awesome American landmarks!
